In Memoriam,
The widely-admired political activist Hugo van Randwyck, passed away on Sunday, 26 January 2020. Hugo was born in the Netherlands in April 1962 to Dutch parents; his father was Baron Frans Otto van Randwyck. He was brought up in Hong Kong, Japan and South Africa and educated at Great Friars Prep School and Felsted Public School in England; following his A-Levels, Hugo graduated in Aeronautical Engineering from Queen Mary College, UCL.
He started his career as a management consultant working for Alexander Proudfoot and Knox D'Arcy for whom he worked for three-and-a-half years.Thereafter, Hugo worked as an independent business consultant in Australia, The Netherlands, South Africa, Malaysia, Barbados and the UK. A regular attendee at political events and conferences, Hugo was well known especially amongst the British Eurosceptic community.
An eloquent and tireless campaigner for Britain's exit from the EU, his infectious enthusiasm and sense of humour earned him praise from those he met. In recent years, he could often be spotted in Westminster or Brussels, meeting with politicians and activists to discuss the UK's relationship with the European Union, and possible alternatives. The pamphlets and reports he wrote on the subject inspired many others to study the matter in greater depth.
When thinking of Hugo, this quote from the author Robert Louis Stevenson seems appropriate, as it could have been something Hugo himself could have said:
"As yesterday is history, and tomorrow may never come, I have resolved from this day on; I will do all the business I can honestly, have all the fun I can reasonably, do all the good I can willingly, and save my digestion by thinking pleasantly."
He is survived by an older brother and younger sister.
