Biographies of the Speakers

Rt Hon. Esther McVey MP
is running for the leadership of the Conservative Party and to succeed Theresa May as Prime Minister. On 15th November 2018 Esther McVey resigned as the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in opposition to Theresa May’s Brexit in name only proposals. Prior to that Esther had served as the Minister of State for Employment (2013-2015). In February 2014 Esther McVey was appointed a Privy Councillor and, in July 2014, was accorded the further privilege of attending Cabinet.

Before entering politics, Esther McVey was a television presenter and businesswoman. Esher McVey’s business career includes supporting small and medium enterprises. Her broadcasting career included, amongst many other shows, co- hosting GMTV, BBC1’s science entertainment series How Do They Do That?, The Heaven and Earth Show , BBC2’s youth current affairs programme Reportage , and Channel 4’s legal series Nothing But The Truth with Ann Widdecombe.

In an article in The Daily Telegraph on 28th May 2019 Esther McVey said that a “clean break” from the EU is “the only viable and acceptable” option left. Esther McVey has launched Blue Collar Conservatism and says she would take money from the international aid budget to put into public services.

Philip Davies MP is the Member of Parliament for Shipley. Issues that Philip feels particularly strongly about are maintaining law and order, tackling asylum and immigration problems, protecting the countryside (particularly from overdevelopment) and ensuring pensioners get a better deal. In October 2005 he became the first Conservative MP of the modern-era to openly state that Britain should withdraw from the EU. Philip was the Parliamentary Spokesman for the Campaign Against Political Correctness and a member of the Better Off Out group of MPs.

Philip Hollobone MP is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Kettering. He is also a member of the All-Party Better Off Out Parliamentary Group. Prior to entering Parliament Philip spent most of his career as an industry research analyst examining the performance of water, gas and electricity companies across the uK. He also served over eight years in the Territorial Army, including time as a paratrooper. In 1984, Philip Hollobone spent eight months working as a volunteer teaching assistant with a Baptist Mission in Honduras, Central America.
