Danish vote: Who do you think you are kidding Mr Blair?

Tony Blair's assertion that if there was a Referendum on the euro tomorrow then he would vote "No" is incredulous and disingenuous. Such a statement from a man who just last week in Warsaw was advocating a European super-power and who initiated the National Handover Plan is pure electioneering. The British people must not allow Blair to kill off the euro as an election issue. It is still the defining issue in British politics and it is quite clear that New Labour is hell-bent (whether covertly or not) on abolishing the pound.

The euro is, and has always been, a political issue. It is about the creation of a European super-state and the furthering of federal integration. The Chancellor's five tests were always a smokescreen for New Labour to hide behind until they had the courage to argue for this centralist project. Even Britain in Europe are now ashamed to propagate their message. They have temporarily deserted the battleground but they will be back.

Membership of the euro is patently wrong for Britain whether assessed economically, democratically or constitutionally. It is not enough for the Prime Minister to say he would vote "No" in a Referendum tomorrow. It is not enough for Mr Hague to rule out membership for the next term of Parliament. When it is so clearly wrong and so detrimental to Britain, Mr Blair and Mr Hague should rule out British membership of a single currency in principle for all time.
