A letter to Lord Frost

snowman-g487d4aa4b_1920

The news on the18th December that Lord Frost was resigning his position as our EU negotiator due to his unhappiness with the decisions the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson was making, was one of the worst things to happen in these strange times. I personally was devastated. I have written to Lord Frost and reproduce my letter below.

Dear Lord Frost,

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for all the work you have done over recent times to ensure we in the UK get the best arrangement possible with the EU, you have done a brilliant job and not only should you be thanked, but applauded too.

To hear on the news on Saturday 18th December that you were resigning was devastating news for many of us who have spent a large part of our lives campaigning against membership of the EU and its rules being imposed upon us.I began to worry about the power of the EU over us from 1991 when I was informed in a letter from the office of the Chancellor of the Exchequer that we were not allowed by the EU to reduce V.A.T. below 15%.I began campaigning then.

After 22 years as a UKIP activist, holding several positions in the party, I joined the Conservative Party in 2019 to support Boris Johnson get Brexit done and campaigned for my local candidate. Sadly, she did not win.

I know since then Boris has had a very tough time with Covid, this was a situation the likes of which none of us had ever experienced and no Prime Minister has ever faced before with so many impossible decisions. However, I could not support him over the green issues such as banning petrol and diesel cars, or gas boilers, which is all based on uncertain science. Also, like you, I cannot support the new restrictions or Covid passports, I let my party membership lapse at the end of October.

However, the difference between you and me is that you have been succeeding where my small efforts over the years have been minimal, you are important whereas I am not. This means we cannot afford to lose you from undertaking the very important job you have been doing. This letter is a personal plea from me to you to ask you to reconsider your resignation. Those of us who care for the independence, democracy and sovereignty of the UK need you to grin a bear the things you do not like which Boris is doing and continue to work on behalf of our country and especially Northern Ireland.

Finally, may I wish you a happy Christmas.

Yours faithfully,

Derek Bennett.
